George Sand Obituary


Obituary

George X. Sand, 91, of Fort Myers passed through into Heaven on November 28, 2006. He was born in Manahawkin, NJ to the late Julius and Lillian Schlingloff and was preceded in death by his wife Phyllis, his daughter Karen and his brother Julius. George was a veteran photojournalist, authored six books and was featured in over one hundred different magazines including Readers Digest, Life and Saturday Evening Post. He was the first person to be awarded Florida's Outstanding Conservationist Award by the Governor.

George is survived by his loving wife Lou B. Sand, his daughter Gayle Sand (Tom) Norton, his step-daughter Brenda Lou Townsend, his step-son Charles W. Huff Jr., and four grandchildren; Virginia Ruth Townsend, Megan Joy Hertzler, Nathan Brice Drillot, and Whitney Alt.

Visitation will be Friday from 3pm to 4pm at the First Baptist Church of Fort Myers 1735 Jackson Street with Funeral Services to be conducted by Dr. Winford Hendrix at 4pm. Interment will be in Prospect Hill Cemetery Front Royal, VA. Funeral arrangements under the direction of the Harvey-Engelhardt-Metz Funeral Home.
