Phyllis Annette Woody Ragland

1939 - 2023

Phyllis Annette Woody Ragland left her loved ones on earth on March 17, 2023, to be with her Heavenly Father and deceased loved ones.

Born in Appomattox County, on March 15, 1939, she was the daughter of the late William Carrington Woody Jr. and Esther Elizabeth McCormick Woody. She was the faithful and wonderful loving wife of Russell "Sonny" Ragland.

She started working at the Appomattox Garment Factory and then moved into being a Developmental Aide for the Central Virginia Training Center until her retirement.

Phyllis loved to talk and carry on a conversation. She never met a stranger and never short on words. She loved to cook. She would collect and share recipes with others. Phyllis was known as the "Queen of Deviled Eggs". She would love to shop at thrift stores and finding the bargains. Phyllis was the most giving and loving person. But one of her main passions was to love on and spend time with the grandchildren.

Phyllis faithfully attended the Bethel Baptist Church of Amherst Virginia. She served the Lord and was part of the Ladies Fellowship.

Phyllis leaves behind her love and memories for daughter, Elizabeth A. Ragland; and her brother, William "Buck" D. Woody (Catherine). She also leaves behind her grandchildren, Lindsey Cooper, Sebastian Jones, Spencer Jones, Ruthanne Jones, and Phoebe Lawrence, and one great grandchild, Bryson C. Sullivan.

She esd preceded in death by her husband, Russell "Sonny " Ragland; one daughter, Sheila W. Cooper; one sister, Madeline Woody "Weenie" Byrd; and one great-grandchild, Jackson W. Tomlin.

A one-hour prior visitation will be held at Driskill Funeral Chapel of Amherst, Virginia, on Thursday, March 23, 2023, at 10 a.m.

Funeral services will be conducted at Driskill Funeral Chapel on Thursday, March 23, 2023, at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Dave Peters officiating. Burial will be held at the Amherst Cemetery in Amherst Virginia.

The family expresses their gratefulness to Centra Health Hospice for the care and love given to Phyllis.
