Micki GRANT

GRANT - Micki, (nee Muriel Wergeles), Real Estate Broker/Entertainer Micki Grant passed away peacefully on February 15, 2014. An amazingly remarkable woman, Micki was defined by her vivaciousness, self-confidence, cheerful disposition, zest for life, and positive attitude. Micki impacted the lives of those around her by her selfless acts of kindness, her generous heart, and her sage advice. Born in the Manhattan Beach area of Brooklyn, NY on January 12, 1928, Micki was an adored child of Charles "Chick" Wergeles and Charlotte Siegel Wergeles and was a devoted and loving daughter to them. Raised in Brooklyn and eventually marrying and moving to Long Island, Micki had a successful career as a real estate broker renting large apartment communities and selling private home communities for several noted developers. Some of the projects Micki was connected to included the Dorado Apartments in Hauppauge, Country Woods at Commack, an The Hamlet and Maple Run in Jericho. Micki was also an accomplished Dixieland Jazz singer who performed in numerous nightclubs and musical venues throughout New York City and Long Island for over 50 years. At the time of her death, she still was booking engagements for her band, the Waterfront Six. Some of the venues Micki regularly performed at during her singing career included the Banjo Inn in Westbury, Old Gerlichs in Glen Head and the Waterfront Crab House in Long Island City. Micki always closed her final set with the song "When You're Smiling." Until her death, Micki was active in the Red Hat Society, Hadassah and, for many years, donated an extraordinary amount of time to the A. Holly Patterson Extended Care Facility in Uniondale, NY. Micki is survived by her children, Edward G. Grant, Jr., Winifred M. Grant (Steven Antonette) and Adam V. Lichtenstein (Angela); grandchildren, Alex and Jack Lichtenstein; sister, Bernice Baxter; and many nieces, nephews ad close friends. She was predeceased by her parents, and siblings, Ruth Gartner, Ed Wergeles, and James Wergeles. Funeral Services will be held at Star of David Chapel, 1236 Wellwood Ave. West Babylon, NY 11704, Tuesday, February 18th, visiting llam-12noon, religious service at 12 noon. followed by private burial at New Montefiore Cemetery in West Babylon, NY.
