Professor Hanrahan was one of the first professors I had at Stony Brook, and is still one of my favorites. He taught me to be a better writer and helped my transition into the university with a touch of dry humor that I always appreciated, even on my worst days. He truly cared about his students, and although we may not have expressed it very often, we knew. As a shy girl entering a huge university, it meant a lot to me that Professor Hanrahan made such an effort to get to know his students on a personal level and even pulled me out of my shell a little bit. He will be sorely missed by all of his students, and I will think of him as I continue my path through Stony Brook and life.

I will always remember Professor Hanrahan as a genuine person with a touch of humor. He taught me not only about writing techniques, but also life lessons in the lens of literature, especially with short stories written by Raymond Carver. You will be sincerely missed.

Goodbye, my dear friend. I can picture the look on your face, can guess what you'd say if you saw it came to this, me posting something on some website. So I'll think of you laughing, and we'll leave it at that for now. I am going to pray for you and your family unceasingly until we meet again.

On behalf of the Aer Lingus Golfing Society Cork Airport I offer our sincere condolences on Pat's sad passing.
Pat will be fondly remembered by all his golfing colleagues in Ireland. His huge contribution over many many years to our annual golf tournament will never be forgotten. In particular Pat will be remembered for his wonderful ability to organise these events. Who will ever forget our trips to New York in 1998 and 2005. I last met Pat in Dungarvan two years ago this month when, although not participating himself for personal reasons, he took the time to pay a short visit to the golf course to meet his many friends.
To Siobhan and family we extend our deepest sympathy.
