My fond memories of SBJL include "Father" Hendel's presence in the parish and its school.
He often invited the catechists to a Friday evening Mass and potluck dinner back at the rectory in the 1980's. What a wonderful opportunity to celebrate community!
Msgr. Hendel was a humble and very kind person.
Well done good and faithful servant.

I was an altar boy at St Martin of Tour on Knickerbocker Ave in the Bushwick section of Brooklyn from the late 1940's to about 1952. Then Father Hendel was the moderator of the altar boys. To me he was the perfect priest. A calm, cool, compasionate human being. I shall always remember him
