Robert Jordan Obituary

It is with a heavy heart that the family of Robert Lee Jordan Jr. announces that he passed peacefully on July 12, 2020 in Panama City, Fl at the age of 92. Robert was born in Bay Springs, MS on April 7, 1928 to parents Robert Lee Jordan, Sr. & Lorena Jordan. He was raised in Laurel, MS where unbeknown to him at the time, he met his one and only Ann in the 3rd grade. Robert & Ann would later be wed in Norfolk, Virginia on June 21, 1951, and eventually move to Panama City, FL in 1956 where they raised their family. Prior to that, Robert proudly served in the United States Navy. After serving in the Navy, he completed his education at Jones County Junior College and the University of Southern Mississippi finishing with a Master's Degree in 1956.
Robert, or as most of you would call him – Bob, Bud, Mr. Jordan, or Side Door Jordan – was driven by his passion for education and his community. Throughout his career in the school systems he impacted the lives of many students, teachers, & collogues along the way. Something he often spoke fondly of. Yes, we have heard all of your "side door" stories! One of his proudest accomplishments was his role as a founding member of A. Crawford Mosley High School and his work he completed during his time there. Even after his retirement in 1997 he continued to volunteer at Mosley High School because being a Dolphin was truly a lifestyle for him. Outside of the school system, he was educating students serving as an active member of Forest Park Methodist Church teaching Sunday school for 28 years.
He was an upstanding man both in his personal life and in his community. He worked hard from early in his childhood, remained humble, and although he was one of the most stubborn men, he had the biggest heart and a love that was unmatched. We will miss his hugs that squeeze the life out of you, his waves from the front window every time you left the house, and his strong will and guidance. The world has truly lost an incredible man, but those we love are never really lost to us – we feel them in so many special ways. So, we ask that you hold onto to those special memories of Robert (Mr. Jordan) and join us as we celebrate his life and the incredible man he was to us all.
Robert is predeceased by his wife, Ann Jordan. He is survived by his 3 children; 1 son, Robert A. Jordan (Selma); 2 daughters, Debbie Jordan-Rafiyan and Leann Jordan-Summers Cowen (Hal); 9 grandchildren, Robert Lee Jordan, III, Christina Lownie (Joseph), Briana Rafiyan-Williams (Michael), Jordan Summers, Spencer Summers, Seth Summers, Tanner Summers, Trevor Summers, & Addison Summers; & 4 great Carmen Williams, Ja'Niya Williams, Bryson Williams, & Sophia Williams.
Funeral Services will be held at 11a.m. on Saturday, July 18, 2020 at Kent Forest Lawn Funeral Home Chapel with Michael Bryan officiating. The family will receive friends prior to the service starting at 10a.m. at the chapel. The funeral will be streamed live for those who cannot attend. Just learned about his passing today. Everything said here, is true. But, the best truth, was the respect he earned, from students peers and friends. A belated RIP to a great man. Maybe St. Peter gave him a "side pearly gate" to work, in case of overcrowding saved souls, coming to Heaven.

Leann and family, I am just now hearing this news. What a great man your dad is and was! For many years, I used to say to you, I don't know what kinda dad he is to you, but to me, he was very special. At the time of my MHS days, he was that stern, guiding factor that kept me "IN" high school. Since my own dad passed away when I was young, my mother would say in later years, "If it weren't for Mr. Jordan, I wouldn't have had any sanity left"..and she meant it! She also appreciated, the stern guidance I was being given. I always like to give credit where credit is due, so YES, Mr. Jordan IS the reason I graduated high school!
Thank you Jordan family for sharing your dad with the rest of us "kids". Prayers for your entire family for peace. Those pearly gates were opened wide when he went thru them. God Bless you all.

Mr. J was my favorite principle at Mosley in 1980. We always checked to see if he was wearing his pink socks at lunch. He was a very caring man with a great sense of humor.
