DORNSIFE - Craig Allen Taxis, 70, of Dornsife, died Friday, Jan. 29, 2021.
He was born in Wellsboro, Dec. 15, 1950, a son of Wilbur Ivan and Eleanor Theresa (Welfling) Taxis. He grew up in Potter County and has been a resident of Dornsife since 1980.
He married Mary Ann Mazaika, July 16, 1977, and they raised two children.
Craig loved his community and the people and youth in it. He was a member of the Herndon Masonic Lodge No. 702 Free and Accepted Masons, American Legion of Herndon and the Herndon Fire Co.
Craig spent more than 30 years volunteering his services in wrestling and soccer, helping form Line Mountain AYSO soccer, as well as sitting on the board to develop the Line Mountain Recreational Area. Formally, he worked as a special education educator, in Ulysses, the Central Susquehanna Intermediate Unit and Sun Technical Institute.
Those who knew Craig best will remember his love of hunting, the outdoors, sharing knowledge, coming to gather advice or parts in the "Taxis rent-all" or sharing a beverage in the "Taxis tavern."
He is survived by his wife, Mary Ann Mazaika Taxis; a son, Travis Taxis; a daughter and her husband, Tasia and Grant Kendrick; two brothers and their wives, Peter and Carol Taxis, of Telford, and Gene and Teresa Taxis, of Cary, North Carolina.
TAXIS - Craig Allen Taxis, 70, of Dornsife. Due to COVID restrictions, there will be no scheduled visitation. A Mass will be held at Transfiguration Ukraine Catholic Church, Shamokin, at the convenience of the family. Craig was dedicated to the Line Mountain Recreational Area. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to be sent to the Line Mountain Recreational Area (Recreational Board, c/o Lower Mahanoy Township, 550 Hickory Road, Dalmatia 17017). The Robert G. Foust Jr. Funeral Home, 841 W. Shamokin St., Trevorton, is assisting the family with arrangements.
