Robert Hornberger Obituary

MOUNT CARMEL — Robert H. Hornberger, 83, of 139 S. Beech St., died Monday, Jan. 7, 2008, at Shamokin Area Community Hospital.

Born in Mount Carmel on June 7, 1924, he was a son of the late Harvey and Bessie (Sauler) Hornberger.

He attended Mount Carmel schools.

He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, receiving the European and American Theater Ribbons along with the World War II Victory Medal.

On Aug. 25, 1945, at Our Mother of Perpetual Help Church in Marion Heights, he married the former Elizabeth Pupo, who survives.

In 1982, he retired from the Mount Carmel Distributing Co. where he was employed as a salesman and delivery driver.

He was a member of the Church of Our Lady in Mount Carmel, the Mount Carmel Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2110 and American Legion Post 91. He was also a life member of the Anthracite Fire Company in Mount Carmel.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by two sisters, Grace Hornberger and Dorothy Hamulla and five brothers, Harold, Arthur, Lester, Marshall and William Hornberger.

HORNBERGER — Robert H. Hornberger, 83, of 139 S. Beech St., Mount Carmel. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Church of Our Lady in Mount Carmel with the Very Rev. Francis Karwacki celebrating. Burial will be in All Saints Cemetery, Bear Gap. Viewing will be from 9 to 10:45 a.m. Thursday at the Joseph J. Stutz, Inc. Funeral Home, 40 S. Market Street, Mount Carmel, Joseph J. Stutz III, supervisor.
