Knightdale, North Carolina - Billie Ruth Willoughby Johnson, 87, passed away Thursday, March 3, 2022. She was born September 28, 1934 in Johnston County to the late Dock Willoughby and Martha Lois Richardson Willoughby. Billie was a 1953 graduate of Corinth Holders High School. Before marriage she worked at the Hudson-Belk Luncheonette. She married her "Honey", Clarence Lee Johnson, Sr. on December 7, 1957. When children came along her husband believed that she should stay at home to help raise and take care of her family which she enjoyed doing. She had a great Godly love for her children, grandchildren and great-grands. Her love for children flowed over to the ones she taught in Sunday School, VBS, CTS, Children's Church and Junior Church at Tippett's Chapel FWB Church. Billie helped organize the Actionettes program and enjoyed serving in the Woman's Auxiliary where she made friends from other churches and missionaries across the world. She also wrote the church news for the Clayton paper for many years.
Billie loved to collect cookbooks and recipes. She enjoyed quilting with her Mom, cross stitch, car racing, fishing and being the "Ballfield Grandma". She had a love for feeding her squirrels, birds and an occasional rabbit.
She is survived by her children: Douglas Lynn Johnson, Theresa Johnson Ayscue (Steve), Clarence L. Johnson, Jr. (Joyce); grandchildren: Tiffany Johnson House (TJ), Kyler David Ayscue (Nichelle), Tabitha Ayscue Hinson (Travis), Lindsay Johnson Blacknall (Deandre); great-grandchildren: Nikayla Ayscue, Jayden and Maliyah Blacknall, Beau, Lacey and Sophia Hinson, Tanner and Tara House; niece, Belinda Edwards Hiltbruner; and nephew, Raymie Edwards.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her "Honey" just 22 days prior to her death; her sister, Betty Edwards; brother-in-law, Ellis Edwards and a grandson, Colton Lee Ayscue and Colton's dog, Basil.
The family will receive relatives and friends from 6:00 to 8:00 pm, Tuesday, March 8, 2022 at L. Harold Poole Funeral Service & Crematory, 944 Old Knight Road, Knightdale.
A service to celebrate her life will be held at 2:00 pm, Wednesday, March 9, 2022 at Tippett's Chapel Free Will Baptist Church, 2530 Shotwell Road, Clayton, NC 27520. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
