Burton Anderson Obituary

Dr. Burton E. Anderson

July 18, 1933 - January 10, 2017

Raleigh

Dr. Burton E. Anderson, 35 year resident of Raleigh, peacefully passed away on January 10, 2017, in the presence of his loving wife Lynette Anderson. Their marriage of 53 years was a living example of love, strength, perseverance, joy and laughter.

Burton E. Anderson was born on July 18, 1933, in St. Paul Minnesota. He was raised by Hilbert and Beatrice Anderson on a small farm in Chisago City, Minnesota. Burton became president of his 17 member high school graduating class after swinging the win by voting for himself. He attended the University of Minnesota where he earned a degree in veterinary medicine. Soon after, he served our country by providing veterinary services for the dogs trained by the Air Force. When honorably discharged, Burton was a Captain.

Burton started his independent veterinary career in Clearwater, Florida, when he opened his own practice. While reading the newspaper one day, he saw a photograph of a beautiful young woman that he knew he had to meet. That photograph was of Lynnette Burk, a new 4H agent that the newspaper was profiling. He did meet her and more; they married her on November 30, 1963.

Burton and Lynne moved to Menomonie, Wisconsin, in 1977, and then to Raleigh in 1982 where they have lived ever since. Dr. Anderson was the founding owner of Armadale Animal Hospital on Strickland Road. In addition, he is the co-owner of Armadale Farm Kennel with his business partner and close friend, Wanda Fitzpatrick-Cranwell. Dr. Anderson was passionate about the care of animals. He talked often about his clients and clients' families, making sure to keep the puppies and kittens healthy into adulthood and especially through end of life. He recognized and honored the importance and connection pets have in our lives. His own cats, Annie and Katie Bell, will miss him dearly.

Burt participated in community service through Rotary Club of North Raleigh. There he served as president for one year. He loved not only the service component of Rotary Club but the camaraderie of good friends. He was a longtime member of St. Andrews Presbyterian Church of Raleigh.

Above all, Burt loved his family. A few days ago he said, "I've had a good life. I love my family. They love me. I am so proud of my 5 granddaughters." The girls will miss his antics, jokes, stories and abundant love.

Burt is survived by his wife Lynette Burk Anderson his sister Darlene Anderson Frisk and his brother Dr. Robert Anderson; his sons Mark and Doug; his daughters-in-law Rachel and Tracy; his five granddaughters Megan, Natasha, Jessica, Bradleigh and Summer; his many dear nieces and nephews; his Armadale Farm Kennel family, and his many wonderful friends and neighbors in Raleigh and Tucson. He was proceeded in death by his beloved daughter Natalie Anderson.

Services will be at St. Andrews Presbyterian Church at 10:30 on Saturday, January 14th. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to SPCA of Wake County.

I worked for Dr. Anderson at his animal hospital when I was going to college in St. Petersburg Fl. He tried to coach me to be a vet, however, I wanted to be a deputy sheriff. I retired from that in July 1999 and had tried to locate he and Lynn. The two of them were very special people and I am sadden that I was unable to locate him. Mayo God bless you doc, your chores our done, and you left a wonderful family.

All of us in Tucson are missing our blue eyed funny guy who always had a story to tell.
I used to see him on his balcony and we would wave and yell back and forth! Love to Lynne and family.
