Raleigh, North Carolina - Catherine Cowen Davidson 64 of Raleigh died peacefully Wednesday March 17th at Duke Raleigh Hospital succumbing to Covid Pneumonia. Cathy was born on August 15, 1956 to William Cardinal Cowen and Virginia Elizabeth Gilliand Cowen at Loma Linda Hospital in Southern California. She grew up in a loving family of five including her younger brother, Bill and younger sister, Margie. Her family lived in California, Kentucky, New York, and Raleigh NC. She loved to ice skate on the ponds in Binghamton, NY. She was an accomplished pianist and studied some organ at Meredith College. Cathy accompanied the chorus at Millbrook High School, her Sunday School at First Church of Christ, Scientist, Raleigh, and had numerous recitals. She graduated from Millbrook High class of 1974. She received a BA from NC State in 1979 and a Master's of Science in Technical Communication from NCSU in 1994. In her career, she worked clerical, and as a technical writer and editor at Duke, NCSU and IBM. Her career was cut short in 1998 due to variously disabilities. In her last years she was unable to walk and suffered with pain.
Cathy married Douglas M Davidson November 26, 1982. They had a most rewarding marriage. During her last 10 years, when her disabilities were the worse, they grew very close and shared many special moments and interests together, including geopolitics, faith, theology, and music.
During her marriage, she examined her faith and read through the bible three or four times and searched the scriptures for the truth about Jesus Christ. She became convinced that Jesus was part of the Godhead and He died for her sins. She expressed her conviction thru believer's baptism at Providence Baptist Church. Her faith sustained her thru her trials.
Cathy is predeceased by her parents, Bill and Ginger Cowen. Her surviving family is: brother Bill Cowen and his wife, Mary and nephew Michael, sister Margie Brooks and husband Jeff, niece Meredith Tinsley and husband Michael, niece Elizabeth Brewer and husband, Caleb, brother-in-law Jim Davidson and his wife Sue, niece Julia Davidson and husband Alex Pollinger, nephews Jack and Henry, niece Susan Suarez and husband David, nephew Davidson, niece Mary Nelson and husband Ryan, nephew Cole, nieces Delaney and Lucy, niece Kimberley Hanna and husband Matt, nieces Emery and Morgan, niece Savannah Brennan and husband Dan, niece Penelope, and nephews Smith and McNeill; sister-in-law Ava Davidson, nephew William, niece Elizabeth Davidson and husband Kevin Newton, and sister-in-law Mary Carol Hussey, nephew Van Hussey and wife Stephanie, nephew Samuel, nieces Abigail, Evelyn, and Isabel, and niece Mary Hussey and husband Jonathan Robertson.
Memorial Service will be at Providence Baptist Church April 8, 2021 at 2:00 PM. Zoom links will be posted on Doug's Facebook page.
