Dorothy Spearman Obituary
Dorothy Phillips Spearman, age 81, died April 23, 2005 of pancreatic and liver cancer. She was a resident of 116 Renwick Court in Raleigh. She was a homemaker and was formerly employed by Colonial Stores, Inc. Her parents were the late Millard and Gertrude Phillips of Emanuel County, Georgia.
She was a member of the Hillyer Memorial Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Raleigh. Having lived in several cities she was active in her churches as a deacon, member of the C.W.F. circle, and served on various committees and boards on the local, regional and national levels. She served on the Boards of Southern Christian Home in Atlanta, GA, Florida Christian Center in Jacksonville, Florida and Christmount Christian Assembly in Black Mountain NC. She was very active in her church wherever she lived. She served in nine Disciple (D.O.C.) churches Augusta, GA, Greenville, SC, Columbia, SC, Jacksonville, FL, Raleigh, NC, Columbus Ohio, Cincinnati, Ohio, Milwaukee, WS, Burlington NC. She was instrumental in starting Meals on Wheels inRaleigh, NC through Hillyer.
Memorial services will be held Tuesday, April 26th, 11:00 a.m. at Hillyer Church, 718 Hillsborough St., Raleigh, by Rev David Mallory.
Visitation will be one hour prior to the service in the church fellowship hall and other times at the home of Wanda Stephens, 201 Nouveau Ave., Raleigh.
At a later date, the inurnment will take place in the Columbarium at Christmount Christian Assembly (Disciples of Christ) in Black Mountain, NC.
She is survived by her husband of 61 years, William G. (Bill) Spearman; daughter, Mrs. Wanda Stephens; granddaughter, Kasey Gayle Stephens of Raleigh; a grandson, Kyle Gray Stephens of Greenville, NC, former son-in-law J. Gray Stephens of Raleigh, NC; and a brother, Dene Phillips and wife Mary Jo, Chauncey, GA; several nieces and nephews and extended family.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Linda Gayle Spearman.
