Harvey Moose Obituary

Harvey Carroll Moose

April 16, 1939 - November 12, 2023

Durham, North Carolina - Harvey Carroll Moose, a beloved husband, father, and friend, passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 12, at Duke Hospital after a short illness. Born on April 16, 1939, in Raleigh, NC, Harvey led a rich and fulfilling life that touched the hearts of those around him.

Harvey's journey began at Broughton High School in Raleigh, where he graduated in 1957. He went on to earn his Bachelor of Science degree at NC State University in 1961, leaving a lasting impact as an accomplished trombone player in the high school marching band and later in the NC State marching band. His musical talents extended to the National Guard Marching Band, and he was one of the original members of Leon Jordan's famous band, The Continentals.

For nearly twenty years, Harvey dedicated himself to production planning at Glen Raven before retiring. As a lifelong NC State fan, he attended both the first and last games ever held at Reynolds Stadium, rarely missing a sporting event featuring his beloved NC State Team.

Harvey's commitment to his community extended beyond the field. He served as the treasurer at the former Resurrection United Methodist Church and, later in life, at Elizabeth United Methodist Church, where he continued to be an active churchgoer.

An individual of diverse interests, Harvey found joy in a variety of musical genres, with classical and bluegrass holding a special place in his heart. A voracious reader, he immersed himself in the world of literature, nurturing his intellectual curiosity.

Harvey is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Loretta Moose, and their daughter, Kim. He is also remembered fondly by nieces Sherrie McGhee of Florida and Kelly Kirchner of Tennessee, as well as nephews Scott Neal, Harlan Owens, and Nolan Neal.

Harvey was preceded in death by his parents, Willie Penninger and Perry Earl Moose, and sister, Elenor Creech.

A celebration of Harvey's life will be held on Friday, November 17, at 1 PM at Elizabeth United Methodist Church, located at 1209 N Elizabeth St, Durham, NC. During this time, we will come together to honor and remember a remarkable individual whose legacy will continue to live on in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing him.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Elizabeth United Methodist Church in Harvey's memory.

May Harvey's soul rest in eternal peace, and may his memory be a source of comfort and inspiration to us all.
