Henrietta earned her Bachelor of Arts in Chemistry and Doctor of Philosophy in Biochemistry from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where she was inducted into several honor societies, including Order of the Old Well, Order of Valkyries, Phi Beta Kappa, Alpha Epsilon Delta, and Sigma Xi. She also served in UNC's student legislature and the student body president's cabinet. Before transferring to UNC, she attended Meredith College for two years, where she received the Freshman Mathematics Award and Sophomore Kappa Nu Sigma award for scholarship and served as a Freshman Counselor.

Fond memories of Dr. Croom from a simple Biology major at Sewanee, class of `78, who made it through medical school and over 35 years of practice thanks to the support of professors like here way back then. Grace and peace.

Dr. Croom taught me biology and biochemistry at Sewanee and we kept in touch over the years. She was a great encouragement and inspiration to me professionally and she always loved seeing photos of our 3 kids. She will be greatly missed by many.
