Walter Hasty Obituary

Walter Steven Hasty, 54, died Thursday, Nov. 30, at his family's "Summer House" at North Myrtle beach, S.C.
Steve, as he was known by family and friends, was born on August 7, 1952 in Fairfax, VA to Walter and Janis Hasty, who were natives of North Carolina. He grew up in Vienna and Mclean, VA where he attended the public schools. He was a graduate of Syracuse University and studied also at Appalachian State.
Mr. Hasty was married to Cathy Williamson Hasty on Oct. 10, 1987, in Oxford, NC. Throughout their married years the Hasty's have lived in Raleigh. In addition to his wife, Steve is survived by his mother, Janis; of Great Falls, VA; his sister, Katherine Talamantes and her husband, Bill; their three children, Matthew, Ben, and Julia, and Steve's brother, Hal.
He was preceded in death by his father, Walter, and his brother, Scott.
For nine years Steve worked for the Independent Weekly, following which he earned a realtors license and sold real estate. He was a lifelong avid reader, a lover of good films, and had a strong interest in philosophy, politics, and social issues.
A memorial service will be conducted by Dr. Michael Catlett and Dr. Thomas Jackson in the sanctuary of the Mclean Baptist Church, Mclean, VA on Saturday, Dec. 9, at 4 p.m.
The family will receive friends at a reception following the service.
