Wilbert L. Garner, 90, of Brown's Pond Road, died on Tuesday, June 19, 2012. Born in Johnston County on January 12, 1922, he was the son of the late Percy and Mamie Davis Garner. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Nancie Brown "Teenie" Garner. Mr. Garner served in the US Army in Germany during World War II. He was a longtime member of Fellowship Free Will Baptist Church, serving as church treasurer for 30 years.
A graveside service was held Friday, June 22 at 10:00 AM in the Brown-Garner Cemetery near the home.
Surviving are his son, Simon Garner (Vickie) of Clayton; daughters, Jean Concepcion (Andy) of Virginia Beach, VA; Linda McCray (Russell) of Selma; sister, Margie Johnson of Newport News, VA; grandchildren, Darlene Johnson, Jennifer Bocock, Darla Concepcion, Chris McCray and Jamie McCray; seven great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren; and his companions Brownie, Kitty Boose, Lucy and Smoky.
