Julia Schneider Obituary

Julia Olmstead Schneider, 95, died at her home on February 6, 2007. She was the wife of the late Frank W. Schneider and was born in New Fairfield on May 6, 1911, daughter of the late Archibald and Effie Knapp Olmstead. Julia graduated from Danbury High School and the Danbury Hospital School of Nursing. As a registered nurse, she worked at Danbury Hospital as head of the EKG and EEG department retiring in 1971.
Mrs. Schneider was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Danbury and past member of St. Baranbus Nurses Guild at St. James Church and past member of DORCUS at King St. Church. She enjoyed her life with her family and was one of the first women to become certified in Danbury Candlewood Lake Power Squadron.
Mrs. Schneider is survived by her devoted son, Frank and his wife, Joan with whom she made her home and her loving grandchildren: Craig and his wife, Jennifer and Christine Schneider; as well as two great grandchildren: Matthew and Zachary Schneider. Also surviving are her sister, Jane Bjelko and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her nine brothers and sisters.
A funeral service will be conducted Thursday at 7 p.m. at the Cornell Memorial Home, 247 White St., Danbury. Friends may call Thursday from 5 to 7 p.m. Cremation will take place at the direction of the family.
Contributions in Mrs. Schneider's memory may be made to the Regional Hospice of Western Ct. 405 Main St., Danbury CT 06810.
Julia's family would like to express their sincere appreciation for the devoted and compassionate care to Melina Andrews, Joan Thornburn and Rose Schlemmer of Regional Hospice and to Janet Candrea of the Danbury Nurses Registrar.
