Sande Powell Obituary

Powell, Sande F.
Sande F. Powell, 85, of Rural Retreat, VA died on Thursday, January 5, 2015 at Carilion New River Medical Center, Radford, VA after a brief illness complicated by Parkinson disease. She was born on May 21, 1929 in Carmel (Putnam Co.), NY, daughter to Mildred Wolcott and William Clifford Field. She was preceded in death by a sister, Sally Horstman.
Sande started out as the wife of the late Gaylord E. Powell and mother to three children, Deniese Powell, Stephen Powell and Cindy Joyner. After her divorce in the late 70's, she went back to school to become a secretary and then worked for Henry Abbott Technical School in Danbury, CT until retirement. After retiring, she moved to NH to live with her daughter Deniese until they moved to Rural Retreat, VA. Sande enjoyed playing tennis, bowling, golf, hiking, gardening and walking the dogs. Sande also loved to sing and participated in church choirs and plays.
Sande is survived by her three children, five grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, her sister, Barbara Hinkle, and brother, George Field.
A graveside memorial service will be held at the Black Lick Cemetery in Rural Retreat, VA at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the National Parkinson Foundation, Gift Processing Center, PO Box 5018, Hagerstown, MD 21741-5018. For more information you may visit: www.parkinson.org
