Dear Family of Larry DeNardis: I met Larry while working as a "Naider's Raider" in Hartford in 1973 and reconnected with him for a moment in Washington right after his election to Congress. As I look back over my work life: House and Senate staffer, actress in NYC and minister from 1996 on, I can honestly say: no one has ever been KINDER to me in my professional life in any time or place than Larry. He will always be remembered with joy and gratitude. Rev. Portia Iverson

Thinking about Larry's loved wife, Mary Lou, children and grandchildren today. May they have some solace in knowing that Larry loved them with all his heart. All the anniversaries (birth, death, marriage) in his life are important to be recognized in a comforting way. Love to the DeNardis Family.

Just learned of Larry's death. He defined the "nobility of public service" for me as a political science major in his department At Albertus Magnus College in the late 60's. He "made a difference" and am sorry I cannot pick up the phone to converse for an hour or two about politics, as I have done since the 70's. My condolences to Mary Lou and the family. He was a great man.

My heart is broken for the passing of Mr. DeNardis. He was truly a good man. Mary Lou and he will continue to be in my prayers. You both always lit up the neighborhood, and it is hard to walk by your house every day knowing Larry won't be there. I am just so grateful I got to see you both this summer and was able to get to know such special people.

Larry was a fine human being and a good professor at Albertus Magnus College where I received my minor in Policial Science from him as one of his first students many year ago.
He used to visit the Miller Library in Hamden, where we reminisced and he told me about his life as it progressed. He is missed,

Condolences to Mary Lou, Lesley and other family members.
I have many fond memories of him and Mary Lou while at UNH. He was an engaged president who met everyone both in the office and at lunch in the faculty dining room. Everyone was his friend. After he "retired" as president he came back often to teach and visit. His tales of life as a delegate in international elections and other diplomatic missions speak to his continuing engagement in the political well being of the U.S. He represented the best of the American politicians and statesmen. Mary Lou was his charming partner. I remember her ability and creativity from Mandarin classes. She will surely miss Larry.

I send my deepest sympathy and love to Mary Lou and her and Larry's wonderful family. I have so many good memories of happier times with all of them over the last 50 years through gatherings at their Hamden home or ours, political campaigns, the family milestones of weddings and arrival of cherished grandchildren, R & R at Edgelea in Old Lyme, visits to Falmouth, MA and, through my late husband, Rick, Larry's mission to bring the University of New Haven into the 21st century. Larry faithfully filled the hyphen between his birth and death dates with his accomplishments, love of family and friends, and an informed world view that made a positive and lasting contribution to his state and country. I am so very grateful that he gave wonderful, brotherly support to my husband during his final illness. May they have a great reunion in heaven.

Sincere condolences to Larry's family. I feel privileged to have been able to get to know Larry over the last several years. He was my brother in the Amity Club of New Haven where he was a member for almost four decades. I always looked forward to seeing him at meetings. Brilliant, witty and an overall bright light in the organization. We will miss him and revere him always.

Larry was (how strange to use the past tense for such a vibrant man) a humanist and an academic in the best sense. I knew him when I was a faculty member during his entire tenure as president of the University of New Haven, and thereafter. He lived his values, which were liberal and compassionate. He carried on his work as a champion of democracy in his work beyond politics and on the global stage. He was always a friend to me. I will miss him. My condolences to his family.
August 26, 2018
We are saddened to learn of Larry's passing. We recall fondly our role in supporting him at the Republican Convention in July 1984. Jay and I were honored to provide the music (through the Arnold Most Orchestra) at that event. I am looking at the program I have in my scrapbook. Our condolences to the family.

Mary Lou and family-
Due to health problems I will be unable to attend services for Larry. But you all know how dear he was to me, going back to being in his political science class in 1964 at Albertus Magnus College and asking our class for name suggestions when Mary Lou was pregnant with Leslie! He attended many of the Velardi family functions, including my college graduation, and it came full circle when my son Matthew enrolled at UNH when Larry was president. My condolences to each of you...

A most cherished friend. I met Larry in the 60's at our home as he visited my dad, Steve. He was a man of integrity, truth, and most importantly great faith. He remained a mentor to me until I left Conn, in the late 70's. My sincerest condolences to the family and many friends he leaves behind. He will be missed but not gone.
