Sophia Salinger Obituary
Sophia Salinger, 71, of North Haven, formerly of East Haven and West Haven, died suddenly at her home on Wednesday, December 27, 2017. She was the beloved wife of the late Karl Carlson. Sophia was born in Yugoslavia on October 18, 1946, a daughter of the late Stephen and Tatiana Sergievsky Salinger, and had resided in East Haven and West Haven for many years before moving to North Haven three years ago. She was a graphic artist/designer for the former Chemical Color Place, Bridgeport, for over 15 years. She, along with her husband Karl, later owned and operated the former Stoney Creek Market of Branford for several years. Her last place of employment was for SARA Group Homes (special needs for adults) in Branford, Guilford and Clinton, where she continued to work until her retirement. She loved to travel and was excited to have gone on her last trip to San Antonio, Texas last December. Sophia is survived by her godson Daniel D'Ambrosio and his wife Denise of New Britain; her dear friends Elizabeth Hunt of Orange and Lorrie Koepke of East Haven; a cousin in France, two nieces in Germany, and her beloved four-legged companion Oscar, a Boston Terrier. Sophia's family will receive friends on Saturday from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Washington Memorial Funeral Home, 4 Washington Ave., North Haven. A funeral service will take place at the funeral home at 1:00 p.m. Burial will be private. Memorial contributions in Sophia's name may be made to the Halfway Home Rescue, P.O. Box 712, North Haven, CT 06473, or call 203-985-8338.

I was so sad to hear of Sophie's sudden death. I was a neighbor of hers in East Haven for over 20 years, and she was a wonderful neighbor. She was also very creative and artistic and never forgot to send a card on holidays or my birthday. She cared for her mother for many years, which enabled her mother to stay in her home in West Haven, and enjoyed her work at Sarah. RIP Sophie

Sophie,
As a lifelong friend, I was so saddened to hear of your sudden death. I feel honored to have had your friendship and companionship for so many years. I will never forget your friendliness and kindness and your pleasing personality. Your passing has brought me profound sorrow. I will miss your cheerfulness and your ability to lift my spirits. I so regret that we did not get to share our after Christmas luncheon. I will never forget you! I wish you beautiful dreams Sophie. I find some comfort in knowing that you are now together with your loving mother, who you missed so deeply. You will always be in my thoughts and prayers. Thank your for enriching my life and the lives of all the others who knew you.
