Walter J. Durkin

DURKIN, WALTER J. Walter J. Durkin, 84 of 10 Larson Drive, North Haven, formerly of New Haven died Thursday, April 14, 2011 at the Hospital of St. Raphael after a brief ilness. He was the beloved husband of the late Frances Sanford Durkin. Mr. Durkin was born in New Haven on December 4, 1926, a son of the late John Harold and Mary Kelly Durkin, and had resided in North Haven for the past nineteen years. He was employed by the City of New Haven, Department of Public Works for twenty years, and then worked for DiChello Distributors of Orange for twelve years retiring in 1992. He was a member of the West Haven Elks Club, a retired member of the Teamsters Local 443 of New Haven, and a proud WWII Army Veteran. Mr. Durkin is survived by his step daughter Carol (Edward) Heenan of North Haven, his step son William Petrazzulo of New Haven, a sister, Florence Montesi, and a brother, Vincent "Red" Durkin of West Haven, three grandchildren, Edward Heenan, Jr., and James and Kara Heenan, all of North Haven, and his canine buddies, Riley and Chance. He was predeceased by a brother, John Durkin. Mr. Durkin's funeral procession will leave Monday at 10:30 a.m. from the Torello-Iacobucci Washington Memorial Funeral Home, 4 Washington Ave., North Haven, for a Mass of Christian Burial which will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. in St. Therese Church, 555 Middletown Ave., North Haven. Burial with military honors will follow in All Saints Cemetery, North Haven.
