Leah Egan Obituary

STILLWATER - Leah M. Egan, 84, of Stillwater, died on March 19.
Leah was a homemaker and administrator for the family business. After an early career in banking, she supported her late husband, Bill, a former first lieutenant in the U.S. Army in Korea, during his career as an Emmy Award-winning member of the Directors Guild of America, where he worked for many years as a stage manager and associate director. As family administrator, Leah handled business and tax matters, including defeating the IRS five consecutive years in tax court when they obnoxiously audited the family business. She loved to read and was a regular patron of the Sussex County Library. She also loved feeding and watching the wildlife that lived around her home.
Leah is survived by her son, Dr. Bill Egan, a former captain in the U.S. Army; her daughter-in-law, Dr. Marie Egan; six grandchildren, Will, Josh, John, Anna, Michael and Beth; and her nieces, Debbie and Diane. She was predeceased by her husband, Bill; her brother, Bill Hilbert; her niece, Linda Hilbert; and her nephew, Billy Hilbert.
Services for Leah are private at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are under the direction of Smith-McCracken Funeral Home, 63 High St., Newton. Online condolences may be made at www.smithmccrackenfuneralhome.com.

My dear Aunt Leah. I loved her so much and what a strong person she was. I had just talked to her a few hours earlier. She helped me so much after my Father (her older brother) passed away three years ago. She kept me strong and I was talking to her all the time these last three years. One of her favorite things to do was to feed the deers , cats and birds. She was so smart and knew how to fend for herself. We talked about everything in her life and mine. God bless you Aunt Leah, I will forever miss you and the way you comforted me and helped me figure out many difficult things. My condolences to her son Bill, wife Marie and their children. I will be praying for everyone. Your loving niece, Debbie Hilbert.
