Lawrence Washington Obituary

Lawrence Norman Washington, Sr. , beloved husband of 53 years of Idella Washington, father of Lawrence Norman (Gina) Washington Jr. and Gregory Eric (Rose) Washington, son of the late Freddie Washington Sr. and Leola Richard Washington; brother of Betty (Clarence, deceased) Dean, Yvonne (Herbert) Washington Washington, the late Freddie Washington Jr. (Viola) , Rosemary Washington Williams (James, deceased) Henry Washington (Audrey, deceased), and Percy Washington , (Beatrice, deceased) ; entered into eternal rest after a lengthy illness on April 5, 2016. He is the brother in-law of Alcenia (Rufus) Robinson, Arthur (Aletha), Herbert (Yvonne) and Leonard Washington, Marguerite (Earl, Jr.) ,Marcelle (Burnie) Moss , Dianne (Larry) Turks and the late Alvin Henderson Washington and Ethel Mae Simmons (Daniel Sr.). He was the grandfather of 10 and great-grandfather of 5. Larry was a member of the St. Mark Baptist Church where he served as a deacon, member of the Trustee Board and the church's financial secretary. He graduated from the now defunct Lincoln High School in 1959, Grambling State University (B.S.) in 1965 and Nicholls State University (M.ED) in 1973. He worked in the Jefferson Parish Public School System from 1965 until he retired in May of 1998. During that time, he served as a teacher at the now defunct Lincoln High School, Special Education Coordinator in Central Office, principal at Gretna #2 Special School, Lincoln Elementary and Frederick Douglass Elementary. Members of the St. Mark Baptist Church family, St. Joseph Missionary Baptist Church, all neighboring churches and Grambling State University Alumnus and Lincoln High School Alumnus are invited to attend the homegoing service on Saturday, April 9, 2016 at 10:00 A.M. St. Mark Baptist Church, 1929 Huey P. Long Ave., Gretna, LA Viewing from 8AM-10AM Only Pastor: Rev. Dr. Joseph L. Hampton Sr. officiating Interment: St. Joseph Bapt. Ch. Cemetery # 2, Marrero, La. Arrangements Rhodes Funeral Home, 1020 Virgil Street, Gretna, LA 70053.

God is able family and he will see us all through our loss.
Aunt Idella you are one strong, loving, and dedicated wife. You were the "Home Health" agency that primarily took care of Uncle to his last breath. Lawrence Jr, Greg Sr. and Jr, grand daughters, Tara, THANK YOU for helping him to have a fulfilling life in the midst of his sickness.
Your sisters and Nanny Vy are heartbroken but all is well because God NEVER makes a mistake. He loved everyone and was loved by so many in return.
