Woodrow Morgan Obituary
MORGAN Woodrow "Woody" Morgan, the Old Flying Tiger, died on Oct. 2 at the age of 91. He was born on Aug. 2, 1918 at Pecan Island, LA., the eighth & last surviving child of ten born to Jefferson Davis Morgan & Virginia Dyson Morgan. He resided in New Orleans for many years and, at the time of his death, in Folsom, La. He was a devoted husband, father & grandfather & is survived by his wife of 64 yrs, Laura Morgan; six children & their spouses (Jean & Jerry Ballanco, Susan & Paul Bennett, Stephanie & Bill Watts, Sandra & Dan Jones, Rebecca & John Sencial, Jr., & Charles & Tricia Morgan). He also leaves 20 grandchildren: Laura Polk (Travis), Jared (Amy D.) Meaux, Amy E.D. Meaux; Pamela & Zachary Bennett; Douglas (Kate), Thomas & Abigail Watts; Katherine (Rick) Manion, Charles & Matthew Jones; John III, Jordan, Jacob & Jamie Sencial; Brittany, Breanne, Brian, Brock & Brigette Morgan; & nine great grandchildren: Caleb, Mason, Kai, Jack, Elise, Jacob, Caroline, Elizabeth, & Osmond. Woody graduated from Pecan Island High School as valedictorian of his class & worked as a boat engineer & seismographer in the drilling fields of southwest La. During World War II, he was a crew chief with the U.S. Army Aircorps, 529 Squadron, Flying Tigers, in India & China. He married Laura Gautreau & thereafter attended ULL (SLI). After obtaining his degree, he went to work for Texaco where he was employed for 32 yrs. He was superintendant of the Paradise Gas Processing Plant and, at the time of his retirement in 1983, Asst. Manager of Texaco's offshore gas dept. He was a charter member of Oak Park Baptist Church, a Master Mason & member of the Abbeville Masonic Lodge. One of his greatest pleasures was attending the Flying Tiger reunions & he did so from 1979 until 2008, missing only one in 2007 when he was ill. Relatives & friends of the family are invited to attend the memorial service at 11 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 12, 2009, at the Abbeville United Methodist Church, 213 N. State St, Abbeville, La. Visitation at the church will begin at 9 a.m. Interment will be at Pecan Island Cemetery at 2:00 p.m.
