John Connolly

1952 - 2022

John Patrick Ireland-Connolly, age 70, of Council Bluffs, formerly of Omaha, Neb., passed away June 25, 2022, at Risen Son Christian Village. John was born February 9, 1952, in Omaha, Neb., to the late Clifford "Howard" and Jane (Fitzpatrick) Ireland. He graduated from Omaha Burke High School in 1970 and earned degrees from Creighton University and University of Nebraska-Lincoln. John was an Architect and taught in the Architectural Program at Iowa Western Community College for nine years, retiring in 2000. He married J. Michael "Mick" Connolly on September 26, 2020, in Council Bluffs. John was a member of St. Mary Magdalene Catholic Church, and Council Bluffs and Omaha Rotary Clubs. He is survived by his partner and husband of 40 years, J. Michael "Mick" Connolly of Council Bluffs; niece, Stephanie Connolly (Amber Taylor), in Japan; cousin, Reverend Michael Fitzpatrick, of Omaha, Neb.; and his beloved dog, Finnegan. Christian Wake service, Thursday, 6 p.m., followed by visitation with the family until 8 p.m., at Cutler-O'Neill-Meyer-Woodring Bayliss Park Chapel. Mass of Christian Burial, Friday, 11 a.m., at St. Patrick Catholic Church, in Council Bluffs. A luncheon will immediately follow in the parish hall. Memorials are suggested to the Sisters of Charity of Leavenworth, Kans.
