Philip Herkenrath Obituary

Philip John Herkenrath, age 87, of Neola, Iowa, passed away June 19, 2023. Philip was born March 7, 1936, in Panama, Iowa, to Phil and Helen (Herbst) Herkenrath. After graduation, Phil served three years in the U.S. Army and later purchased a business in Neola. On June 29, 1968, he married Genevieve Aman and lived in Neola. They were blessed with two daughters, Gina and Cassandra. After 30 years of employment, Phil retired. His interests included golfing and most sporting activities, and enjoying the warmer climates of Arizona, and was also an avid reader and challenged many Sudoku puzzles. Phil is preceded in death by grandparents, Matt and Maggie Herbst, and John and Dolly Herkenrath; parents, Phil and Helen Herkenrath; brother, Jimmy; in-laws, Dick Johnson, Karen Herkenrath, Jacque Belder and Ed Malley; numerous other family and friends. Phil is survived by his wife, Genevieve; daughters, Gina (Scott) Huebner, of Minden, Iowa, and Cassandra (Mike) Porter, of Avoca, Iowa; five grandchildren, Brandon and Brady Huebner, Sidney, Sam and Grace Porter; brothers, Richard Herkenrath and John (Mary) Herkenrath; sisters, Darla Johnson, Shari Belder, Jane Malley and Linda (Nick) Bruck. Private graveside services were held at St. Patrick's Cemetery, in Neola, with military honors by the Neola American Legion Post #330.
