Andrew Collier Obituary

COLLIER
Andrew Joseph, 90, of Upper Saddle River, died Thursday, November 3, 2016 surrounded by his loving family. He leaves his beloved wife of 65 years, Eileen (Kuss) Collier; his sons, Dr. Andrew Collier Jr. and his wife Kathy; Dr. Paul Collier and his wife Nancy; Peter Collier and his wife Mary Beth; James Collier and his wife Donna; John Collier and his wife Nancy; his daughter, Eileen Collier Geraghty; seventeen grandchildren, Matthew, Jason, Brenna, Kiersten, Paulina, Peter Jr., Clare, Ryan, Shane, Alexander, Michael, Molly, Annie, Luke, Gabriella, John and James; and his sister, Agnes (Collier) Petise of Greenwich, CT. Andrew was born in Albany, NY, the son of William and Agnes (Daimler) Collier. He attended Seton Hall University, graduating in 1949 with a bachelor's degree in Accounting. He and Eileen met at Holy Trinity High School in Hackensack and the high school sweethearts married in 1951. After serving in the Army Air Forces from 1943 to 1945, he started working at Packard Bamberger in Hackensack, carrying bundles of groceries to customers' cars. Over time, he became the Treasurer, and retired as Executive President after 48 years of dedicated service. A devout Catholic, "Andy" was an original founder and Trustee of Church of the Presentation, was instrumental in its construction and was a fixture as an usher at the Saturday 5 o'clock mass for many decades. He was a founder of The Green Knights Club, a booster organization at Saint Joseph Regional High School. An avid golfer, he was a long time member of Hackensack Golf Club and served on its board as Treasurer. He and Eileen won the Grandparents' Golf Tournament and he was voted "Most Handsome Gentleman" many years in a row. He was an amateur pilot and a devoted fan of the NY Football Giants since their days at the Polo Grounds. He lived his life guided by his love of family and his faith. The memory of his faith, devotion and personal strength always will serve as an inspiration to his loved ones.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, November 8, 2016 from 2-4 & 7-9 PM at Church of the Presentation, 271 West Saddle River Road, Upper Saddle River, NJ.
