McGURK
Daniel Thomas, 63, a longtime resident of Pompton Plains, died Saturday, November 15, 2014.
A funeral Mass will be held 10 AM Friday at Our Lady of Good Counsel RC Church, Pompton Plains. Burial will follow in the First Reformed Church, Pompton Plains. Visiting will be Thursday from 2-7 PM at the M. John Scanlan Funeral Home, Pompton Plains.
In lieu of flowers, the McGurk family would greatly appreciate donations to The Last Resort Animal Rescue 139 Point Breeze Drive Hewitt, NJ 07421.

Geri,I am so very sad to hear of Mr McGurks passing.He was one of my most favorite people (teachers) at Vo-Tech.He was also a great friend. I'm the one who made the trip to your home to meet his football player friend.:-) You and he were so nice to me by inviting me into your home. He love you more than anything in the world!! I'm so happy to see that you have a beautiful daughter Jett. May you both find peace and smiles from all of your precious memories that you had with the crazy fun loving man you had in your life! Gerri I am so sorry for your loss. I was a student at Sussex County Tech and I really looked up to Danny, he was an awesome person. He use to call me "Bear Bryant" and he always got a kick out of that. I am so happy out paths crossed again one time about 7-8 years ago while he worked for the phone company. It really made me smile brightly to see him again after all those years. He was a great person. May god bless you all through this tough time in life and may he rest peacefully . He was a wonderful inspiration to all who knew him.

Sorry to hear of Mr Mcgurk ' s passing. I was a student at vo tech, graduating in 1977. I knew he was one of the younger teachers, but did not realize quite how young he was. I got to know some of the faculty in a slightly different way when I worked in the main office in the afternoons of my senior year. He was very nice to me.

It is a very sad day for Pequannock Township, those that had the honor of knowing Danny and his loving, caring family and for his close friends/family at Post 450. Thank You Dan, for all the kind words sent to everyone when they needed it, for the contagious smile and laugh that lit up the space where ever you may have run into him, and Thank You for being 'YOU'. You left this world way to young. But, another amazing Angel must have been needed. All our loved ones that have left us, received a special gift," DANIEL THOMAS McGURK". Although we lost a truly genuine, loving, caring, kind, and thoughtful man, we have been blessed with the most amazing gift. The gift of CHERISHED MEMORIES that each of us had the honor of making with Dan. Rest in Peace dear friend. Geri, Jett, Mike and family, we are so very sorry. Use those never ending stories, times of laughter and love and CHERISHED MEMORIES to get you through this very sad and hard time. Dan has always been the ray of sunshine that brightened everyone's days.

Our sincere condolences to the McGurk Family,
The sad news of Danny's passing reached me here in Georgia yesterday from Mary Clare Michaels Diehl. Danny and I were classmates at Holy Spirit School and I will always remember him as a good and kind-hearted young man. It truly warms my heart to hear about the good things he went on to do in his too short life mentoring young athletes and serving others as a volunteer with the American Legion and the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
After graduating from Holy Spirit Danny went on to Pequannock and I went to De Paul. There was a serious sports rivalry between the two schools at that time and my husband, Rich Pfundstein, remembers Danny as a strong competitor on the field in both baseball and football. Rich would like to think that DePaul beat Pequannock time and again in his 4 year career, but I am pretty sure we may have to go to the video tape on that one.
I think it is safe to say that we are all on the same team now and we will be praying for Danny and we hope he will be praying for us too.
