TEWKSBURY — Mr. Egon Schwartz, 90, of Tewksbury, died Wednesday evening, May 5, 2010 at the Lawrence General Hospital.
He was born in Germany on Jan. 29, 1920 to an American Jewish father, Erwin, and a German Jewish mother, Bertha. His father was imprisoned in Auschwitz for five years. Egon left Germany with his paternal grandparents on the last American boat out of Germany.
In America, he enlisted in the Army Air Corps. Fourth Combat Cargo, where he served as a Corporal from 1941 to 1945 in the China, Burma and India Theaters of Operation.
After the war he graduated from Essex Agricultural Institute and became a Dairy Herd Improvement Association Supervisor. He held this job, which he loved, for 41 years until his retirement.
His survivors include his wife of 48 years, Ruth (Hayes) Schwartz of Tewksbury; five children and 10 grandchildren.
ARRANGEMENTS: Private funeral services were held on Friday under the direction of the H.L. Farmer & Sons Funeral Homes, Haverhill & Bradford.
