Elizabeth Martin

MARTIN
Elizabeth (Betty) F. (nee Walker), passed away January 29, 2017. She was born December 31, 1926. Predeceased by her husband Louis Martin in 1973 and her parents Florence (nee Bower) and Thomas Walker. Loving mother of Judith Martin, David Martin and Barbara Boscia, Alicia and Andreas Couraud, Merilyn and Marcel Traficante and Allyson Martin. Grandmother of Derek and Bettina, Claire, Adrienne, Zoe, Meredith, Alyssa, Jillian, Erika and Scott, Tana and two great-grandchildren Amelia and Mallory. Elizabeth was a graduate of East Rutherford H.S. in 1944. She attended FDU and the Berlitz School in NYC. She was fluent in three languages. Elizabeth retired from Matheson Gas where she worked in the Export Dept. Prior at Citibank in NYC in the Foreign Exchange Currency Dept. A member of the Vic Hoofers of Carlstadt, East Rutherford Seniors and St. John's Lutheran Church in Rutherford. Her passions were vast including Earth Sciences, Geology, Archaeology and Travel. While on an archaeological dig in Montana with the Museum of Natural History of NY, she discovered a dinosaur fossil which is now in a museum. Elizabeth also extensively traveled the world. To mention a few, she walked on the Great Wall of China and went above the Arctic Circle to Lapland where she dog sled. She studied all her life to enrich her knowledge on infinite topics. Always adventurous with a can-do attitude. She learned to cross-country ski, sail, dove off the coast of Bermuda, snorkeled and kayaked in Hawaii and the Caribbean. At the age of six, she started a lifelong love of playing the piano. She also played the guitar as well as the accordion. She was an avid NY Times crossword player along with a love for reading about her interests like being a lifelong National Geo Magazine subscriber. She loved animals and always had pets. Elizabeth was known for her kindness and modesty. She will be deeply missed by her friends and family. Visitation Wednesday 4-8 PM at the Kimak Funeral Home, 425 Broad Street, Carlstadt. Funeral departing funeral home on Thursday, February 2, 2017 at 9:15 AM for a Funeral Service in St. John's Lutheran Church, Rutherford at 10 AM. Interment East Ridgelawn Cemetery, Clifton.
