Genevieve Bulas

Genevieve J., 89, of Wayne, formerly of Pompton Plains, died Sunday, December 25, 2016.
Born in Garfield, she was the daughter of Louis and Genevieve Nicolini. Raised in Hasbrouck Heights, she attended school there. During her teenage years, her sister encouraged her to write to a soldier serving overseas during World War II. Genevieve did, and over a length of time she exchanged many letters with GI Fred Bulas. When he returned home, he took her out on a date, and at the age of 19, she married him.
The couple settled in Pompton Plains, raising five children. A warm, gentle woman, Genevieve enjoyed raising her family, and especially enjoyed the time they spent at their summer home in Birchwood Lakes, Pennsylvania.
Genevieve and Fred retired to Port Charlotte, Florida, and built a home together there. They greatly enjoyed the warmth of Florida and the beauty of the area, but returned to Wayne fifteen years ago to be closer to their family.
Genevieve loved to paint and play bingo, but everything was second to spending time with her loving family.
She is survived by her children: Joseph, Michael and his wife Kathy, and Jennifer Morris and her husband Paul; her son-in-law, John Ludolph; her daughter-in-law, Betty; her grandchildren, Lorraine, Johnny, Shane, Derrick, Jessica, Tara, Dana, Amber, Kristin, Josh and Jenna; and fifteen great-grandchildren. Genevieve held a special place in her heart for Danny, Eric and Becky. She was predeceased by her husband, Fred, her son, Daniel, and her daughter, Kathleen Ludolph.
Funeral services were privately held. The M. John Scanlan Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
