Henry Baker Obituary

BAKER
Henry Nicholas Jr., 75, passed into the loving arms of the Lord on August 17, 2016 at 10:54 PM. Henry died at Villa Marie Claire Hospice with his family at his bedside. Henry suffered for many years with RA, cardiac disease, pulmonary fibrosis, seizures, and multiple surgeries but it was lung cancer that took him from his family. Henry was born in Englewood, and raised in Edgewater, NJ, until joining the US Army at age 17. After marrying his "bride" of 54 years the couple lived in Louisville, KY, Palisades Park, Cliffside Park and most recently Mahwah for 48 years. During his working years, Henry was a structural steel iron worker belonging to Locals 361, 483 and 11. He helped construct the Verrazano Narrows Bridge, the 1964 World's Fair, the Taj Mahal Casino in Atlantic City and other structures in NY and NJ. Henry loved every working minute following a tradition of his father, uncle and older brother. Of the many loves of his life, Henry enjoyed being with his wife, three children and four grandchildren, crabbing at his summer home, cruising, hanging out with friends and always loved life in general. He wanted people to know he was no stranger to his church, Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish in Mahwah, where he was a past president of the Men's Club, an Extraordinary Minister of the Eucharist, and a dedicated bingo worker during the 70s and 80s. He also volunteered at the Valley Hospital for many years. During the late 1970s Henry was Cub Master of Pack 258. Predeceased by his son Jon in 2002, his parents Henry Sr. and Mathilda (Polster) Baker, Henry is survived by his wife Nancy (Tolland), his daughter Kim Smith of New Milford, Jill Plant and husband George of PA, grandchildren Ryan Smith, Brielle Smith, George Plant, Jenna Plant, brothers Paul and wife Susan, George and wife Pat. Henry also leaves behind his good friends and neighbors, especially Siegfried and Anna Bader and family. Visitation will be held on Sunday from 2-4 & 7-9 PM at the Van Emburgh-Sneider-Pernice Funeral Home, 109 Darlington Ave, Ramsey, NJ. A funeral mass will be celebrated on Monday, August 22, 2016 at 10 AM at Immaculate Heart of Mary R.C. Church in Mahwah. Interment will follow at Mahwah Cemetery. Donations may be made in Henry's name to Villa Marie Claire, 12 West Saddle River Road, Saddle River, NJ 07458. Please send tributes, memories and condolences to
