CALVERT - Herbert Hoover entered into Eternal Rest April 26, 2006. He was born on November 2, 1928 in Passaic, NJ. One of a set of triplets, his debut was marked on the front page of the NY Daily News with each being named after the third Presidential candidates being voted for on that date. He is survived by his cherished wife of 53+ years, Helen. His surviving children are Stanley (Fran), Kathy (Dennis) Swartout, Cindy (Rick) Johnson, Kenneth (Ginny), Richard and Irene (John) Cole. He will be missed by his beloved grandchildren; Clinton, Lucas, Chance, Nicholas, Adam, Jamie, Monica, Tiffany, Richard Jr., Stephen, Johnny and Spencer. A Korean War Veteran, he made his living as a culinary scientist working many years at Leusden's Bakery, Fairlawn, NJ; Kohout's Bakery, Garfield, NJ; and Karsh's Bakery, Phoenix, AZ. A lifetime member of the DAV, Chapter 20, he retired to his villa in Phoenix, AZ. Herb's greatest gift was his comedy, laughter and joy he brought to everyone around him each and every day. His optimistic outlook on life was infectious. He is also survived by his brothers, Raymond and Edward as well as numerous nieces and nephews, and is preceded in death by his sister and brothers, Mearl, Chester, Robert and Norman T. His life was prolonged by the compassionate and excellent care from Carl T. Hayden Nursing Home. His respect and admiration for the Veteran's Administration was endless. In lieu of flowers, the family request donations to that facility in his memory. A Memorial Service was held on Sunday, April 30, 2006 at Christ the Redeemer Lutheran Church, 8801 N. 43rd Ave., Phoenix, AZ.
