Ronald Lefcourt Obituary

Ronald Lefcourt

Ronald Lefcourt. Prominent Businessman and Philanthropist Dies at 82

Ronald Lefcourt, father to Jeffrey and Jonathan, father in law to Robyn, grandfather to Jennifer, Hanna, Courtney and Jacob, passed away on January 2, Z018. Ron was a devoted husband to the late Helen, who predeceased him.

Ron was born in Astoria Queens, New York, to Harry and Betty Lefcourt, on lanuary 29, 1935. His father was a band leader and professional musician, whose band "Harry Lefcourt and the Red Jackets" was well known in the swing cabaret and music scene in the 1940's and beyond, playing for such luminaries as Frank Sinatra.

Betty was a homemaker and was known for her love of family and her fantastic culinary skills. Ron's devoted sister loan Eskow predeceased him in 1997.

Ron Lefcourt came from humble beginnings in Astoria, Queens, and graduated from Bryant High School in December 1952, as he was in the rapid advance class and skipped half a grade. Ron always fondly recalled his early years growing up in Astoria with animated stories about playing stickball and enjoying friendships at a time when life was simpler than it is today. Ron met the love of his life Helen (nee Brandt) when he went to work for his brother-in-law Jerry Eskow, at Yale Transportation, in Manhattan, New York. Yale was well known for their headquarters along the West Side of New York, with the truck on the roof. Ron and Helen married on December 29, 1959 in New York City. Ron joined the Yale organization in 1950 as a receiving clerk for Nationwide Trucking, then worked his way up the ranks and became Assistant to the Vice President of Operations. At the age of 28 years old, Ron was promoted to New York Terminal Manager of Yale Transport, which at the time was one of the country's premier trucking, consolidation and transportation corporations. It was then that Ron began his life-long career in trucking and transportation and traffic management.

Ron proudly served in the United States Army overseas, stationed in Germany, where he and Helen lived for many happy years, and where their first son Jeffrey was born. He was honorably discharged September 1964. Ron loved his country greatly, and was a life long contributor to many veteran's causes. Upon their return from Germany, Ron and Helen decided to move to Orangeburg, New York, and grow their family with the birth of their second son Jonathan.

Ron left Yale and started Selective Transportation in New Jersey in the 1960s. Ron's cousin Ronald Moeller joined Ron Lefcourt with Selective Transportation. Their lifelong friendship and business collaboration speaks to Ron's deep sense of loyalty to his friends, his colleagues, his business associates, and his employees.

in 1977, Ron decided to open another company Alliance Shippers Inc together with Ronald Schwed, of Chicago, Illinois. Ron Lefcourt's extraordinary sense of wisdom, and his belief in the value of hard work, his care and vision, evolved Alliance from a provider of domestic rail intermodal services to a global presence and leader in the logistics and transportation industry.

Ron also believed in giving back to the community in which he lived, as he believed that life was about circumstances and relationships, hard work, honesty and respect Ron became very involved with Englewood Hospital, and his philanthropy and vision provided the Hospital with its very first Hybrid Operating Room in 2013, a treatment room at the new Emergency Center in honor of his late wife Helen Lefcourt, and finally in 2016, the Lefcourt Family Cancer and Wellness Center to bring state of the art technology and services together in the humanistic care of the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of cancer.

Those who knew him personally remember his passion that learning never ended. His weekly newsletters to his friends, family and business associates that discussed and dissected areas of national and international significance were of great importance to him and to his audience. His sense of humor and wit, when disclosed,

was biting and exceptional. He was a remarkable person and his family and friends and all those who knew him will miss him greatly.

Funeral on Sunday, January 7, 2018, at 12:30pm at the Sanctuary of Abraham and Sarah, Paramus, New Jersey. In lieu of flowers, the Lefcourt family asks that you consider making a contribution to the Englewood Hospital and Medical Center Foundation.
