Margaret Shahid Obituary

Margaret Pharo Shahid, a resident of Destin, Florida for 63 years, passed away peacefully at the age of 93 on July 14, 2016, at Destin Healthcare.
Margaret was born into a Lebanese family on October 20, 1922, in Birmingham, Alabama. She attended Auburn University and married the love of her life, Ernest Shahid, in February of 1941. A few years later she visited Destin with a friend and quickly fell in love a second time. At age 27 she packed her family and became the inspiration for her husband as he went on to become a visionary developer and later earned the title "Father of Tourism" in Destin. Together, these two bet on their dreams and won.
Margaret was preceded in death by her parents Abraham and Maude Pharo, husband Ernest Wadere Shahid, sons Ernest Wadere Shahid, Jr. and William Mark Shahid, brothers Fred and Ernest Pharo, and grandson Ryan Shahid.
Her parents instilled in her Christian values, loyalty, and love of family. Margaret is survived by her sons Wayne Shahid and wife Pam, Cary Shahid, Marilyn Shahid; twin daughters Lisa and husband Lamar Hill and Lynda and husband Mark Hollan of Atlanta, Georgia; four grandchildren Kim Shahid, Lauren Hollan, Brian Hollan, and Slade Shahid, and many nieces and nephews and loved ones.
Margaret enjoyed a successful career in real estate sales and interior design. She was a wonderful wife and mother and through that her memories will be carried on in the legacy of love, which is now in the lives of everyone she touched.
The family is holding a private service, followed by a celebration of life for family and friends at the Ocean Club at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, July 19. The family wishes to extend a special thanks to the staff at Destin Healthcare for taking such good care of Margaret in her last years.
Flowers are welcome to Saint Mary Catholic Church in Fort Walton Beach or donations are accepted to the charity of your choice.
You may express condolences to the family and sign the guestbook at www.heritagegardensfuneralhome.com. Heritage Gardens Funeral Home of Niceville is entrusted with the arrangements.
