Alberta Petrone Obituary
Alberta Rose Petrone
Jan 8, 1942 - Oct 27, 2025
Alberta Rose Petrone, known as "Bert" to her family and closest friends, age 83, of Wanatah, Indiana, passed away peacefully on October 27, 2025, surrounded by her loving family.
Born on January 8, 1942, in Chicago, Illinois, Alberta was the daughter of John and Leona Petrone. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brothers, Joe and John Petrone; and her dear friend, Rin Siebert. She is survived by her brother, Leonard (Jane) Petrone; her sister-in-law, Brenda Petrone, wife of the late Joe Petrone; nieces: Maria (Eric) Flatt, Melissa (Bill) Aiken, Monica Petrone, Jennifer Petrone, and Rebecca (Jamie) Vales; nephew, Nick Petrone; and great-nieces and nephews: Tyler (Briana) Aiken, Brody Aiken, Brooklyn Aiken, Kinsley Flatt, Bryson Flatt, Ella Petrone, and Gabby Vales. She is also survived by Rin Siebert's family, whom she loved as her own.
Alberta was a proud graduate of Indiana University Bloomington, where she earned a Bachelor of Science in Recreation. She later attended Valparaiso University, where she earned a Master of Arts in Liberal Studies.
A woman of deep compassion, faith, and dedication, Alberta poured her heart and soul into everything she did. As the owner of The Sportshop, she built a local favorite where customers quickly became friends. She also shared her time and talents with the YMCA where she served as a Senior Director. Her greatest fulfillment, however, came from serving others through the St. Vincent de Paul Society of Sacred Heart, where she served as president from 2012–2017 and remained an active member throughout her life. Her leadership, generosity, and unwavering dedication made a meaningful difference in countless lives.
To those who knew her best, "Bert" was so much more than her many accomplishments, she was a source of wisdom and unconditional love. She cherished her mornings at Jimmy's for breakfast with "the ladies," looked forward to summer days at Bear Lake, and loved nothing more than hosting Petrone Summer Camp for her great-nieces and nephews.
She will be remembered for her kind heart, her deep love for her family, and her lifelong passion for volunteering and helping others.
Alberta is now reunited with her dogs Stubby, Holly, Whitney, and Pumpkin, and leaves behind her loyal pup, Peanut.
A Mass celebrating the life of Alberta will be held on Saturday, November 1, 2025, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Wanatah, Indiana. Family and friends may visit beginning at 9:30 a.m., with Mass at 10:30 a.m., and burial to follow.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the St. Vincent de Paul Society of Sacred Heart, the Porter County Community Foundation Women's Fund, or to the Siebert Family Foundation, given in honor of her faithful friend Rin Siebert.
Wanatah Funeral Chapel is entrusted with arrangements.
