Martha L. Nicholson

HIGHLAND, IN - Martha L. Nicholson, 92, of Highland, IN passed away at home on January 2, 2023. She was born on April 19, 1930, to Forest and May Nicholson in Noblesville, Indiana. Martha was a teacher and high school librarian at Lowell, Indiana, before coming to School Town of Highland in 1956 as Director of Library Services. After she retired in June 1990, she volunteered for Meals on Wheels where she received her 25 year service award and as church librarian at Immanuel United Church of Christ. She traveled extensively all over the world. She organized tours and took students to Europe seven times. She loved her cats (catkids).
A Memorial Service will be held at Hillside Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 8941 Kleinman Rd (one block south of Ridge Rd) Highland, IN, 46322 on January 7, 2022 beginning at 4:00 pm. Visitation will follow until 7:00 pm.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Humane Indiana, 421 45th St. Munster, IN.

Miss Nicholson was a wonderful librarian. She was always ready to help a student with research. Always had reading suggestions to deepen our knowledge whatever the subject.

Martha was our neighbor for many years. We had in common our love of cats. Delivering Meals on Wheels was another interest we shared. So many people have benefited from Martha´s knowledge gleaned from her travels and her enduring involvement in life.

Martha was a valued member of Immanuel United Church of Christ in Highland. Her hard work to maintain our library was greatly appreciated. She will be missed.
