CEDAR LAKE, IN - Richard J. "Dickie" Cervantes, age 88. Late of Cedar Lake, Indiana formerly of Hobart, Indiana. Passed away peacefully with his family by his side on August 14, 2023. Beloved husband of Linda (nee O'Meara) for 58 years.
Loving father of Vanessa (CR) Sackman, Audra (John) Foreman, Melissa (Jason) Tellado, and Roberta (Brian) Hynes. Cherished grandfather of Devon Cervantes, Kayla Spera, Hunter Ruzbasan, Enzo Hynes, Raven Singleton, Franklin Foreman, Seve Hynes, Jackson Foreman, and Frances Foreman. Dear brother of Mary Lou Hamilton. Fond uncle of many nieces and nephews. Dickie is preceded in death by his parents Luis and Celia Cervantes and siblings: Robert, Luis, Charlie, Teresa, Irene, and Margaret. Veteran of the U.S. Air Force. He was a retired Sheet Metal Worker and member of Sheet Metal Worker's Union Local #20. Dickie was a champion Ping Pong player in the USAF and enjoyed fishing, boxing, and movies.
Visitation Thursday, August 17, 2023 3:00 – 8:00 p.m. Visitation and Funeral Services Friday. August 18, 2023 from 11:00 a.m. until time of services at 11:30 a.m. at the ELMWOOD FUNERAL CHAPEL – Cedar Lake 9931 Lincoln Plaza Way (1/2 block south of 133rd Ave. across from the library at Lincoln Plaza Way. Dick was a good friend of my parents and I knew him as a child. He was an apprentice under my father Thomas Mason and the worked together as sheet metal workers. He was a great guy and my family has fond memories of him. My dad passed in 2006 and Duck was there for his Celebration of Life. They were good friends with great respect for each other. Dick you will be missed. My sincere condolences to your family
