DEXTER EARLE Obituary

EARLE--Dexter Dudley, who passed peacefully on August 30 at 78, was a long-time senior Wall Street executive best known for his kindness, humor, generosity and devotion to his family and friends. Dexter was a retired Partner of Goldman Sachs & Company, where he co-founded the Equities Derivatives Department and spent sixteen years building the business into a global leader. Prior to that, he was a Senior Vice President responsible for pension investments at Bankers Trust Company. Throughout his career, Dexter served as a mentor to many and was admired for his ability to put everyone from clients to colleagues at ease with his smile, humility and warmth. The close friendships he made while working lasted a lifetime. Above all his professional accomplishments, Dexter's proudest role was that of a devoted husband and loving father. After surviving a battle with cancer in his 50s, he retired to spend more time with his family, happily trading in his suspenders for Hawaiian shirts for the many visits to their home on the Big Island. In retirement Dexter's love for his family was matched only by his unwavering commitment to his philanthropic causes. He served on numerous boards, including at the Atlantic Health System, where he regarded his three years as Chair as one of his greatest privileges. Previously, Dexter also served as Chair of the Foundation for Morristown Medical Center and was a driving force in fundraising campaigns for its Goryeb Children's Hospital and Gagnon Cardiovascular Institute. A large share of his philanthropic support went to the Loomis Chaffee School, where he was a member of the board of trustees for nine years. Dexter not only was an alumnus of the school, but also entrusted Loomis with the education of two of his children. He graduated from Rutgers University in 1964. He will be most remembered at his alma mater as an indefatigable fan of the Scarlet Knights football team. Dexter is survived by his wife of 41 years, Carol, and four children, Tyler, Katie, Reid and Alex. The family has requested that remembrances be made in the form of contributions to the Foundation for Morristown Medical Center (f4mmc.org) in gratitude for the unparalleled medical care and comfort its team provided Dexter and his family during his final days.

I worked at Goldman Sachs in the early 90s and remember Earl´s battle with the serious illness.

Was so glad to find out today that he overcame it!

I am Dexter´s third cousin. We both come from small families. His mom (Ethel) and mine (Evelyn) were first cousins. Their moms were sisters. Dexter went to Rutgers 4 years before I did, so I was a legacy of sorts. We both had a great aunt (Rose) who would mix us up. I got a lot of birthday cards addressed to Dexter. So, I was shocked by his obit in The Times. To Carol and his children, I am very sorry.
