DOUGLAS NORDLINGER Obituary

NORDLINGER--Douglas E. On May 16, 2017. The partners, attorneys and staff of Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom LLP mourn the loss of our friend and retired partner Douglas E. Nordlinger. A Skadden attorney for 31 years, Doug served as the head of our Energy and Infrastructure Projects Group and played an important role in its development as a leading practice. He was 61. Known for his rare ability to combine a gentle manner with fierce and effective advocacy, Doug joined our Washington, D.C. team in 1984, became a partner in 1989 and relocated to London in 1992. Doug was a proud alumnus of Duke University ('78) and Harvard Law School ('81). He is survived by his wife Margaret, daughter Rachel and her husband Andrew, and son David. Doug will be greatly missed.

I hadn't seen Doug since law school and was shocked to hear he's gone. His gentle humor made law school more bearable. Many prayers for his family. Rest in peace, Doug.

Doug was one of the very best lawyers I have worked with in my 30 year career. Absolutely at the very top of his profession. But much more to the point, Doug was a truly wonderful person; kind, thoughtful, warm-hearted. One of nature's noblemen. Dear Nordlinger Family, I am deeply saddened by Doug's loss and would like to offer my condolences. I first met him in 1996 when we were working on projects in Turkey. We started as colleagues but I quickly regarded him as a friend. We also worked closely in his last project in Turkey. I will miss him.

It was four weeks ago that I I kissed your husband, Doug on his cheek, at The Surrey with you, Margaret standing next to us. I will "again" remember how hard someone fights for their life, when the Lord is calling him home... Our heavenly father takes the best on his terms of "thy will" and we left with visible pain. Nothing anyone can say or do will remove what you are having to experience now... I hold close to my heart your children, you, and most of all Doug's courageous fight to fight what he was up against! Doug was a wonderfully patient, understanding and supportive professional mentor, boss and colleague, and also a dear friend.
