ELVIRA ESTERHAZY

ESTERHAZY-- Countess Elvira Alexandra of New York City died on August 22, 2023 of natural causes in her Manhattan home. She was 94. She was born on April 13, 1929 in Vienna, Austria to Count Geza Esterhazy and Countess Isabella Esterhazy nee Wrbna-Kaunitz. Raised and educated in the former Austria-Hungary, then turned World War II and Iron Curtain refugee, she emigrated to the United States in 1949, settled in New York City, and studied art and design. She developed a successful career as a designer of jewelry in partnership with her eventual husband, the surrealist painter, sculptor and designer Baron Eric DeKolb-Wartenberg. She also developed her talent as an artist, producing numerous oil paintings. Among her great loves were the performing arts and the inimitable scenery, people and dogs of Central Park. She was predeceased by her husband and six brothers and sisters. She is survived by her nephew, Alexander Evans, of Darien, CT and Manhattan, and her niece, Eva Evans of Stamford, CT. A funeral mass will be held on August 29, 2023 at 11:00am at the Church of St. Ignatius Loyola at 980 Park Avenue. A private interment will be held at St. Raymond's Cemetery, Bronx, NY. The Dimiceli Funeral Home, New York City, handled the arrangements.
