FLORENCE ROBERTS Obituary

ROBERTS--Florence, died peacefully at home on June 1, 2014. Beloved wife of Moss; adored and admired mother of Sean and Jenny. In her work over three decades as a Legal Services attorney and Family Law Unit Director, she represented indigent clients in domestic violence, custody, and divorce cases. She also did volunteer work with incarcerated women in family law. She fought for her clients based on a keen sense of justice and injustice and compassion for the cruelties that poverty inflicts on them. She was an inspiration to her children, both of whom pursued careers in law, and to her colleagues (veteran and junior), who turned to her for advice and who responded to her dynamic personality. She leaves a major legacy in the field of law, but also in the field of medicine, having participated in an epigenetic trial for the treatment of leukemia, to which she finally succumbed. A celebration of her life will be held on September 13, starting 11am, at the Kimmel Center of NYU, Rosenthal Hall. To honor her life's work, our family has established a fund in her name at the Women's Prison Association. The donation link is: http://www.wpaonline.org/ content/florence-roberts-memorial-fund
