KATHERINE FINDLAY Obituary
FINDLAY--Katherine. "You should only be in the paper three times in your life," Toddie used to say, "when you're born, when you're married and when you die." Katherine (Toddie) Deere Glover Findlay, age 99, from Hobe Sound, Florida died peacefully in Old Forge, NY on August 12, 2021, surrounded by those who loved her. Toddie was born in Moline, Illinois, September 7, 1921, the third daughter of Broadway Producer, Dwight Deere Wiman and Dorothea (Stephens). She married Dawson (Gubby) Coleman Glover. (died 1975) in 1941 and remarried Donald Ridout Findlay (died 1998) in 1981. She is survived by her sister, Damaris Deere Wiman Ford, her daughters, Katherine Dunne (married Carrie Cirillo), Patricia Ramsay (died Ian Ramsay), and Elizabeth Marino (married Thomas Marino). She was predeceased by son, Dawson (Berry) Coleman Glover (died 2016) (married Constance Glover). She is also survived by 12 grandchildren, and 20 great-grandchildren. In 1939, at 18 years old, she starred with Jose Ferrer, Fran Heflin, and Phyllis Avery on Broadway in "Charlie's Aunt." She sang with Frank Sinatra in his early career in radio. Shifting from her theatrical career, her family and friends then became the focus of her life. Her philanthropy was anonymous, generous and prolific, especially within her community, the arts and education. She was fascinated by the people she loved but demurred when asked details about her own life. She was deeply spiritual and mischievous. She was impeccably mannered and delightfully salty, often switching between the two mid-sentence. She read the paper every day and celebrated the accomplishments of those she loved with an insatiable curiosity. She never said "hello" when she called on the phone, but rather launched immediately into what she wanted you to know before hanging up without a goodbye. Toddie called everyone she adored her "beloved." Rest well our beloved Toddie. You will be remembered well and often. A memorial service will be held in Hobe Sound, Florida on December 20, 2021.
