MARGARET MADDEN Obituary

MADDEN--Margaret J. Margaret J. "Peg" Madden, died July 18, 2022. Peggy Jenkins was born in Paterson, NJ. She graduated in 1950 from Kimberley School, Montclair, NJ, and received a BA in Physiology from Vassar College, 1954, later earning a MS in Biology at NYU. Peg's career in education began with teaching science, moving into counseling and administration, as Head of the Upper School at Kimberly School, Director of Counseling at Newark Academy in Livingston, NJ, Head of Hathaway Brown School in Shaker Heights, OH, and Head of Phoenix Country Day School, AZ. During this time, she developed teacher training through the Independent Schools Association, and chaired the Educational Records Bureau. After retirement, Peg headed the Arizona Nature Conservancy Board and served on the Boards of the Phoenix Zoo and Desert Botanic Garden. She moved to Santa Fe, NM, where she joined the Board of the local Audubon Society. She is survived by her three children Lynn Osborne and William Osborne both of Santa Fe, NM and Wendy Pierce of VA; six talented grandchildren; and a great-grandson. There were three important men in her life: W.H. Osborne III, the father of her children; Hugh Madden; and Bob Baker. Throughout her life, Peg loved science, travel, storytelling, birding and canoeing at Pocono Lake Preserve, PA. She was a supporter of conservation and lifelong learning.
