Molly Milbank Obituary

MILBANK--Molly Wetmore, 91, died peacefully at home in New York City on February 12. Born in Santiago, Cuba she was the daughter of Robert C. Wetmore, one of Teddy Roosevelt's Rough Riders, and granddaughter of a founder of the United Fruit Company. She was a direct descendent of Philip Livingston a signatory of the Declaration of Independence and Robert Livingston who arranged the Louisiana Purchase. She also was a descendent of the Wetmore family which had been residents of New York City when it was under Dutch rule. She was married to Samuel R. Milbank an investment banker and philanthropist who predeceased her. She will be missed by her survivors who include her daughter, Elenita M. Drumwright, her son Samuel L. (Tony) Milbank, seven grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

I'm so sorry about Molly. I was her veterinarian in New York and when I moved to Nebraska we talked often and I was always glad to hear from her. I lost contact with her when she moved and then one day, her caretaker called me and I was able to talk to Molly again. I will miss all of her stories. Especially the ones involving her life in Cuba. She led a full life, and I'm glad I got to know her. I will miss her.

My condolences on the passing of your dear Mother. I never had the pleasure of meeting her, but if you are any indication, it was a loss on my part. Our hearts are with you and don't hesitate if you need anything.

I send my sincere sympathy on Molly's passing. As the broker for her apartment at 201 East 87th Street I also lived on the same floor, She often came to visit my two cats and had wonderful stories to tell. I often saw her in the hallways taking her daily constitutional. She was a fascinating women and her mind was sharp.
