SAMUEL KRAMER Obituary

KRAMER--Samuel R., a lifelong New Yorker, passed away peacefully of heart disease at the age of 84 on Thursday, January 21. He served the city for many years as Director of Bronx Development for the Department of Housing Preservation and Development, directing early efforts to revitalize the borough. Sam thrived in retirement--devoting himself to painting, playing the piano, electronic music composition and enthusiastically learning to tango. Sam was an active member of the city's early music community playing the recorder, viola de gamba and hosting salons in the apartment he shared with his wife of 43 years, Linda. She was the only person who could keep up with his feverish attendance at off-the-beaten-track concerts, dance performances and art exhibitions. A graduate of the University of Pennsylvania and New York University Law School, Sam kept up countless friendships, including those from his boyhood in Manhattan Beach, Brooklyn. In addition to his wife, he is survived by their son Nicholas and twin granddaughters Rose and Adeline. Contributions in his memory may be made to JDRF (Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation) via his family,www2.jdrf.org/ goto/teamarf or 24359 Northwestern Highway Suite 125 Southfield, MI 48075. Please indicate Kramer/Team ARF! in the check memo.

He was one of the best bosses I ever had — he allowed me to learn on the job in Melrose Commons in the Bronx and was always supportive and caring.
