MURPHY--Thomas S. The NYU Langone Health community mourns the passing of our dear friend Thomas S. Murphy, a cherished leader and patron of our institution for five decades. Tom served as a revered Trustee of the medical center from 1972 to 2022, holding the position of chairman between 1984 and 1997. Legendary for his business acumen, Tom offered invaluable organizational guidance and played an integral part in our institutional growth and renewal over the years. As a generous philanthropist, he made a transformational impact across NYU Langone, supporting numerous critical priority initiatives that helped our medical students excel and enhanced care for patients and families in need. Tom was predeceased by his beloved wife, Suzanne Crosby Murphy, with whom he had his four children: Emilie Murphy (Byron Nimocks); Thomas S. Murphy, Jr. (Karen Murphy), also a Trustee of NYU Langone and chair of the Child Study Center Advisory Board; Mary Murphy Conlin (John Conlin); and Kathleen Murphy. He is survived by his loving children and nine grandchildren. Tom will long be remembered for his devotion to NYU Langone, as well as his warmth, humanity, and selflessness.
