Dr. Thomas Tam

TAM--Dr. Thomas. The City University of New York mourns the passing of our former trustee who served with admirable and exemplary distinction from 1989 to 1996. Dr. Tam was a highly regarded educator and beloved husband, father, and friend whose admirers stretched far beyond the Asian American communities he served in so many beneficial ways. Dr. Tam organized the first Asian American Higher Education Council, comprising faculty and staff throughout CUNY. Working closely with Professor Emeritus Betty Sung, Dr. Tam led efforts to establish the first Asian American/ Asian Research Institute at CUNY. Dr. Tam's professional career reflected his deep devotion to education, particularly at the collegiate level, and a special emphasis on community healthcare and education, both in New York City and elsewhere.
