TOWNSEND KNIGHT Obituary

KNIGHT--Townsend Jones Townsend Jones Knight, a retired Senior Partner with the New York law firm of Curtis, Mallet-Prevost, died peacefully on March 1, 2012 at the age of 83 in Long Island NY. Townsend was born in New York City on August 10, 1928 to Jesse Knight and Marguerite Jones Knight. He attended St. Bernard's School in New York City and St. Paul's School in Concord, N.H. He graduated from Harvard University and from Columbia University Law School before serving as a 1st Lieutenant in the Air Force from 1952-1953. From 1953 until 2010 Townsend worked at the New York law firm Curtis, Mallet-Prevost, Colt & Mosle where he was a partner from 1965 until his retirement. Townsend spent summers in Long Island where his family had strong ties and where he served on the Board of Directors at the Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory for 12 years. He was also an active board member of the Metropolitan College of New York, formerly the Audrey Cohen College, since 1966. Townie's happiest moments were those spent at the family home in Penobscot Bay with his friends and many generations of family where he was a deeply committed member of the Island community. He will be remembered for his friendly manner, positive outlook and his infectious smile. Townsend is survived by his beloved wife of 56 years Elise, his three daughters Margaret Dudley, Elise Wallace and Jessica Knight and his eight devoted grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at St. John's Church in Cold Spring Harbor, N.Y. at 2 o'clock on Sunday March 4th. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
