Nathaniel Torrence White

1933 - 2023

On September 22, 2023, Nathaniel "Billy" Torrence White passed away in his home in Potomac, Maryland due to complications from cancer. He is survived by his son Miguel Torrence Velez-White (Michael) & his wife Shyrell, his daughter Natalie White Englund & her husband Ethan; his three grandchildren: Thomas, Yzabela and Alexandra, his brother Edward C. White, his sister Ethel M. White, and countless cousins, nieces, and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife Carolyn S. White, parents Ella B. White and Booker T. White (both of Auburn, Alabama), and sister Edwina White Lindsay of St. Louis, Missouri.

Nathaniel was born July 12, 1933, in suburbs outside of Auburn, Alabama. After serving a tour of duty in the US Air Force during the 1950s, he attended Morehouse College in Atlanta, Georgia for both Bachelor's and Master's Programs. While at Morehouse, he met and later married Carolyn W. Smith. After college, he moved to the greater Washington D.C. area; ultimately with the family residing in Silver Spring, MD in late 1964. While there, he served for 5 years with the Pentagon; then transferring to the Federal Reserve Board of Governors in 1969. He served with the Board until his retirement in 1984. After his retirement, he started a photography business which he ran successfully for another 30 years. While in retirement, he traveled to many countries around the world with his wife Carolyn and several family members/friends. Ultimately, he made time to enjoy the quiet life at home in Potomac, Maryland.

Memorial services will be held at the Frank Brown Recreation Center - Rooms "F & G" on Saturday, March 16th at 9:30 AM. The Center's address is 235 Opelika Rd., Auburn, AL 36830.
